I am a cartoonist, comedy writer and speaker based in Brighton, UK, best known for Clare In The Community as a weekly strip in The Guardian and as a BBC Radio 4 sitcom starring Sally Phillipps.
Awards I have won include UK Cartoon Art Trust Strip Cartoonist Of The Year and The Sony Radio Comedy Award. In 2020 I was made a Fellow of The University Of Wales, Aberystwyth. As resident cartoonist for Blue Hat Event Management I have my very own events Animate With Harry Venning and Harry Venning's Cartoon Warehouse. I am also an accredited lecturer for The Arts Society offering talks on the history of cartoons, sitcom writing and BBC radio comedy. A former actor, I still have my Equity card and am fully DBS checked. |

Cartooning is quite a sedentary, not to mention solitary, occupation and so there are few things I enjoy more than grabbing a handful of pens, deserting my desk, striding out into the world and doing some live drawing in front of an audience.
I have drawn live in arts centres, conference halls, comedy clubs, colleges, schools and at festivals. My cartoon excursions have taken me to Switzerland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Hungary and all around the UK.
I can provide instant images to enliven your conference, inspire the artistically reticent to Release Their Inner Cartoonists or show school students of all ages the power of the pen as a means of storytelling and self expression.
